There was a lot of talk about Ellen's Academy Awards selfie, but I haven't heard anyone talk about how amazing it is that the among Jared Leto, Jennifer Lawrence, Ellen, Bradley Cooper, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt, Angeline Jolie, and Lupita Nyong'o was her brother. He's even obsuring Angeline Jolie. I mean there's a lot to love about Lupita, for her style, for her speeches, for Patsey, but her brother is my hero.
Reminds me of when my friend C.J. was front and center in this pic after we won the championship in 2005. Although his two minutes per game average makes him far more legitimate in this picture than Lupita's brother.

Why I may get rid of my scale
About a month ago, I started doing kickboxing at a gym near my house. My gluttony and lack of exercise during the holidays was leading me closer and closer to my "panic weight." My original plan was to start running outside when it got warm enough, but I caved and went to an indoor gym when it didn't seem like winter was ending anytime soon. The first day I was there, we did an exercise where you lay on your side, and lift up your legs to bring your hands to your ankles like a scissor. I tried, but my legs just didn't move. I mean I wasn't even close. Barely got them off of the ground. I looked around, and everyone seemed to be doing it pretty easily. I laughed and told the girl next to me "I don't have that gene." The next time I went to class, the same thing happened, and I made the same hilariously witty comment.
This morning, I got on the scale, and there it was- my panic weight. I was hoping it was the "gain muscle, lose fat" principle, but I figured it was more related to the excess of donuts. I felt a little down in the morning, but resolved to improve my diet, and decided to go to kickboxing tonight. By the afternoon, my mood was better after receiving some good news from my program director. I was pumped when I got to the gym. I could feel that my endurance was improving- I was able to do most of the kicking and punching without taking rests like I used to. Then we laid on the mat to do the dreaded strength exercise, and gosh darn it I got my legs all the way up! Slapped my ankles 4-5 times on each side. Right now I'm the heaviest I've been in a long time, and the strongest I've been in a long time. I may get rid of my scale.
